Enel Green Power Chile (EGPC), a subsidiary of Italian utility Enel, has connected a 160MW solar PV park to the grid in Chile.

The US$270 million Finis Terrae project, located in the municipality of María Elena in the Antofagasta Region, can generate more than 400GWh of power each year for the equivalent of 198,000 Chilean households. It stands as the largest solar project in Latin America at present.

EGPC has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Chile’s Northern Region tyransmission network, the SING grid (Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande).

The developer has a portfolio of 430MW of PV in Chile, with 300MW in development. The next biggest plant in Latin America likely to come on line at the end of 2017 is Enel’s 254MW Ituverava PV plant in Brazil.
